Cottage Ideas

Well, for some reason I haven't gotten around to doing this post- but I've been meaning too. I guess I've been too busy with work, entertaining out-of-state family members, book club, weddings, bridal showers, updating our house, packing for the big move and uhhhh you get the idea!

August is always a very busy month in Maine. But I've got some down time now so I thought I would share with you some of my ideas for the Thistle N Rose Cottage A.K.A "THE BOX"

First off- If you get Country Living Magazine- Take a look at the Women Entrepreneur section. This month you'll find Sharon- who was very inspiring when Jason & I were first considering buying the cottage. I'd been meaning to give props to her for her great cottage renovations but I just haven't had a chance. When I saw her in this month's issue I knew it was time!

A while back I emailed Sharon to compliment her on her cottages and to ask her a couple of questions about her renovations. She was absolutely wonderful and gave me some great pointers! Anyways check out her site: http://www.go-cottage.com/ to see the pics of the inside. I was really drawn to her cottages because much like my own they were extremely small & simple in design. When I saw how beautiful & comfortable she made hers, I felt like there was hope for mine.

Another spectacular place that you'll find BIG cottage style in a small space is at the Cottages at Cabot Cove. http://www.cabotcovecottages.com/ These cottages are sooo tiny- but they are amazing! * AND RIGHT HERE IN MAINE! *
Both of those sites helped when I started on re-vamping the cottage. Here are few other plans I have up my sleeve!

Side note: We are in the process of re-locating our driveway to a lower part of our property. You can see from the pictures below that we put a fence on our property line, which as it turns out, runs right through the old driveway.

Because the old driveway went right up next to the house, there is lots of dirt & gravel. See?

I'd like to see that upper part transformed into nice lawn--- Like this!!

OOO LA! LA!

Then I would like to have a little walk way like this one going from the new driveway to the front door

And last but not least, I'd like to plant these along my fence. These are Knock Out Rose Bushes. I think they are heavenly! Think about all the nice bouquets of flowers you would have in the summer! You can buy them on the cheap from http://www.directgardening.com/ in the spring but they are out of stock now.

Have any interesting ideas to share? Let me know! Have a FANTASTIC Thursday!

Elizabeth,
Hello, I just found your blog through Mumzie's Pumpkin Patch.
Your cottage is absolutely gorgeous. I feel like I've just been to Maine on a "virtual vacation"! It makes me want to jump in my car and head north, with my Scottie of course!

Ooo, these links sound great!
I LOVE your plans for the cottage. The lawn is already looking awesome, well done! It's really going to anchor your home like a great rug under a dining room table.

I want some knock-out roses too. Do you have any Hollyhocks? Nothing says cottage like roses and hollyhocks...
(and Scotties and kitties, lol!)
